Manchester United is reportedly making significant moves behind the scenes to secure the services of Paris Saint-Germain’s (PSG) midfielder Manuel Ugarte. According to sources from France, the English club has tabled a substantial proposal valued at €45 million plus add-ons.

Ugarte, a defensive midfielder from Uruguay, joined PSG from Sporting Lisbon just a year ago. His tenure with the French champions began promisingly, particularly with his performances in the Copa America. However, his fortunes took a downturn after PSG’s heavy defeat to Newcastle in the Champions League, which led to him falling out of favour with PSG’s head coach Luis Enrique.

Ugarte garners the attention of top football clubs

Despite this setback, Ugarte has garnered attention from several top clubs. Alongside Manchester United, both Barcelona and Manchester City are reportedly keen on signing the 22-year-old. United’s interest seems the most intense, with the club reportedly exerting pressure on both the player and PSG to finalise the deal.

The proposal from Manchester United is believed to be nearing completion. The only remaining hurdle appears to be securing the green light from Luis Enrique to proceed with the sale. Given the circumstances, this approval is not expected to pose a significant barrier.

Ugarte’s move could boost United’s midfield

If the deal goes through, Ugarte’s move to Manchester United could bolster their midfield options significantly. The club has been on the lookout for a solid defensive midfielder to add depth and strength to their squad. Ugarte’s experience in top European competitions and his recent performances for Uruguay make him a valuable asset.

As the transfer window heats up, it remains to be seen if United can fend off competition from Barcelona and Manchester City. The coming weeks will be crucial in determining Ugarte’s future and whether he will be donning the red jersey of Manchester United next season.
