Cristiano Ronaldo has now set a new scoring record in the Saudi Pro League, further solidifying his status as one of the greatest footballers of all time. The 39-year-old Portuguese forward scored twice in Al-Nassr’s 4-2 victory over Al-Ittihad, bringing his total for the season to 35 goals. This achievement surpasses the previous record of 34 goals set by Abderrazak Hamdallah during the 2018-19 season, also while playing for Al-Nassr.
The phenomenal Ronaldo
Ronaldo’s performance has been nothing short of phenomenal since he joined Al-Nassr in January 2023, following his departure from Manchester United. In just 69 games across all competitions, he has netted 64 goals for the Saudi club. This remarkable feat underscores his enduring skill and determination, even as he approaches 40.
Ronaldo’s effort was great but Al-Nassr finished second in the league for the second consecutive season. They ended 14 points behind the champions, Al-Hilal, but were comfortably ahead of third-placed Al-Ahli by 17 points. Ronaldo’s contribution has been pivotal to Al-Nassr’s strong performances.
A staggering career
Throughout his illustrious 22-year career, Ronaldo has scored a staggering 765 goals. His career has seen him play for some of the world’s most prestigious clubs, including Sporting Lisbon, Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Juventus. Additionally, he holds the record for the most international goals scored by a male player, with 128 goals in 206 appearances for Portugal.
Reflecting on his achievement, Ronaldo stated, “I don’t follow the records, the records follow me.” This statement shows his relentless pursuit of excellence and his ability to continually set new benchmarks in the sport. Ronaldo’s latest record in the Saudi Pro League is yet another testament to his extraordinary talent and enduring legacy in football.
